Mamelodi Sundowns successfully clinched the domestic treble following a 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic at Orlando Stadium thanks to a second half Gaston Sirino goal, but now the champions could be in trouble due to Tebogo Langerman.
According to PSL stats, Langerman picked up his fourth yellow card in Sundowns last Premiership game Vs Black Leopards, which would've made him ineligible to be on the team sheet for the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday.
Mosimane looked ready to bring Langerman on late in the game but was apparently stopped by the fourth official, and the player did not enter the pitch.
The Sundowns coach was asked during the online post match press conference, if he knew Langerman was suspended. "I'm not aware of that. How come you are asking me, as the coach? I'll ask the club," responded Mosimane.
The losing coach John Maduka also commented on the matter after the match saying "I've just learned that Mamelodi Sundowns used one of the players that was on suspension but I'll leave it to the officials to deal with that."
It remains to be seen if Masandawana's first domestic treble will be threatened by this suspension matter. This is the second incident in two consecutive years involving suspended Mamelodi Sundowns players.
Sundowns were found guilty last year by the PSL’s disciplinary committee over fielding Arendse in a 1-1 Premiership draw against Bidvest Wits in October 2019, when the defender had not been named in the match squad of 18‚ contrary to league rules, but the arbitration issue was dropped.
According to the PSL handbook, under the specific sanctions Rule 57.1 on ineligibility states that:
"If a player takes part in a match(he is on the team sheet, field of play, or on the substitutes bench at any time despite being ineligible, the Member Club which fielded him will be sanctioned with a forfeit of the match and a minimum fine of one hundred thousand Rand (R100 000). The player may also be sanctioned."
