The 35-year-old former Amazulu striker managed to steer Usuthu out of the relegation zone and now has set his sights much higher for the upcoming season.
AmaZulu FC announced Ayanda Dlamini as head coach on a three year deal on Wednesday. The Durban based club took the decision to offer the role to Dlamini, following a successful run of results, since he stepped in as caretaker manager at the beginning of March.
Following his appointment the former Amazulu striker said, “We want to make the team compete for the championship, we want to compete for trophies. I think that’s possible but we’ve [got] to work hard for it.”
"The experience that I had from my playing career and also what I did in the short space of time as a coach, I will use that to make sure I help the team win. I don’t want to say that we will win the league but we will compete," he added.
Amazulu have not won a trophy since 1992, with the last cup final appearance being in the 2010 Nedbank Cup where a side led by Neil Tovey lost 3-0 to a Roger De Sa coached Bidvest Wits. It will be interesting to see if Ayanda Dlamini can bring in some silverware to end the 28-year wait for a trophy for Usuthu.
