Bafana Bafana are searching for a new coach ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers where they find themselves in Group G with AFCON 2021 qualifiers Ghana, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.
Failure to qualify for the AFCON tournament directly contributed to previous South Africa head coach Molefi Ntseki being relieved of his duties, following the 2-0 loss away to Sudan.
So far, names like former Bafana coach Carlos Quieroz, former Bafana midfielder Eric Tinkler and Mzansi's all-time record goalscorer, Benni McCarthy, who has led Amazulu to 3rd on the DStv Premiership this season, have all been linked with the vacant position.

Interestingly, the World Cup has always been won by a coach who is born in the country that eventually wins it, whilst also most of the Afcon titles have also been won by African coaches, with Herve Renard being the most successful foreign coach in the tournament with two titles.
Bafana Bafana themselves, last qualified for any tournament under the tutelage of two-time coach Stuart Baxter (2019 Afcon). The most successful tournament showing were also under Clive Barker (96 Afcon) and Jomo Sono (98 Afcon).
