CAF have officially announced Mamelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe as the new President of the african football federation for the next four years.
Motsepe’s rivals, Senegal’s Augustin Senghor, Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya and Jacques Anouma of Ivory Coast, withdrew their candidacies last month in exchange for leadership and executive positions. Senghor and Yahya have been offered vice-presidencies, and Anouma an advisory role.

Zambian FA President Andrew Kamanga withdrew from the race earlier this morning, citing the decision by the candidates to reach consensus on the position of CAF president as his reason to withdraw, "in order to move together through unity, " said Kamanga.
Patrice Motsepe spoke briefly after his appointment at the 43rd CAF General Assembly saying that "It's a huge honour and a huge privilege for me, and we spent the whole morning hearing the challenges that confront African football and I will talk later about what all of us can and will do together".

The South African billionaire also steps down from his presidential role at the Chloorkop club in order for him to be able to be at the helm of Africa's governing football body. Tlhopie Motsepe (son of Patrice Motsepe) takes over as Mamelodi Sundowns president.
